What My Mom Taught Me About Food

My Mom is by far the best cook I know! I asked her where she learned to cook so good. I was expecting the usual story about her and her mom spending hours in the kitchen together, but that wasn't the case. I always wondered why she didn't cook the usual southern fare the rest of my friends' moms were cooking, because she was raised in West Texas. It all became clear when she told me she knew very little about cooking when she married my Dad and it was he that taught her how to cook!
My Dad was from Scotland, his father was a Scot and his Mother was Irish. I can only imagine what a shock it was for my Mom to learn how to cook dishes she wasn't even familiar with eating.
My Dad was in the Army and they traveled to Europe. That explains why I ate Lasagna, Rouladen, and Curry while my friends ate Chicken Fried Steak. It's funny all my friends wanted to eat at our house! One of their favorite dishes was Curry, a mix of cubed Round or Chuck Steak mixed with diced onions, and cubed potatoes all simmered slowly in a Curry Sauce. She served it over rice and it's still a favorite, it's even better the next day!
The reason I'm making this web page is that in recent years it has become more difficult to find Moms favorite Curry Powder in stores. She only uses Sun Brand Hot Madras Curry Powder and I've found it online in 4 oz and 16 oz sizes. I didn't know they made a 16 oz size! They also offer 12 packs of the 4 oz size, Mom will be thrilled!
You can't beat the balance of flavors in Sun Brand Hot Madras Curry Powder . All curries are a blend of spices and can vary greatly from brand to brand, I've tried several and only Sun Brand Hot Madras Curry Powder has the right blend of spiciness and heat. To find
